Cone Catching

Engagement Time

15 - 20 minutes

Cone Catching is designed to improve your little one’s gross motor skills and hand eye co-ordination skills.

Materials Required

Cone Catching
  • Sheet of Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Sticky Tape
  • Ball or Bean Bag

Method

This activity is very similar to catch and throw but this time instead of throwing the ball into a hoop on the ground your little one needs to catch the ball in a cardboard cone.  To create a cone you simply cut a circle from the piece of cardboard, cut a slit from the edge to the centre of the circle and then rolling the two sides of the circle over each other to create a cone.  Once you have created a desirable sized cone sticky tape the two sides together and your little one is ready to throw the ball and attempt to catch it in the cone.

Extension
As your little one become more skillful at throwing and catching the ball in the cone you can reduce the size of the entrance to the cone and reduce the size of the ball being thrown.  In addition you may wish to throw the ball to your little one and have them attempt to catch it to encourage them to move a little further in their attempts to catch the ball.

This activity develops skills in these areas:
