Follow the Leader

Engagement Time

15-20 Minutes

Follow the Leader is designed to improve your little one’s memory and concentration skills while providing an opportunity to use descriptive language of location.

Materials Required

Follow the Leader
  • Two toys
  • Items to create an obstacle path

Method

For the first part of Follow the Leader it will be necessary to set up an obstacle path for the chosen toys. The path need not be too complex but a chair, some tins, some pots and pans and a couple of toys would be ample.

The first time you play Follow the Leader you may wish to take one of your little one’s toys through the path calling out the path the toy is taking such as under the chair, over the pineapple slices tin, around the tin of tuna, over the black tin, over the edge and across the saucepan before climbing out the other side, past elephant and then for a ride on Bessie the horse before returning to the beginning. Your little one must then follow the path exactly using their toy and repeating the path as best they can.
