Fruit Turnovers

Fruit turnovers are a fun treat everyone can enjoy.

Materials Required

  • 1 sheet reduced fat puff pastry
  • 1 apple - peeled, cored and diced
  • 1 tspn cinnamon
  • 1 tspn nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 egg - beaten (optional)

Method

  1. Place the pastry on its plastic on the bench to thaw.
  2. Cook the apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, water and brown sugar over medium-high heat for about 15 minutes or until the apple is just soft but still holds its shape when stirred.
  3. Cut the pastry into quarters and score the diagonal of each square.
  4. Let your little one spoon the slightly cooled mixture onto one half of each square and fold over the unfilled triangle.
  5. Have your little one pinch together the edges of the triangle and brush with the beaten egg.
  6. Cook at 180ยบ for about 20 minutes or until brown.
  7. Serve with cream, ice cream or custard but be careful the filling will be very hot.

Note: The apple may be substituted for pears, apricots, peaches - which do not need to be cooked or combined with strawberries or sultanas.
