Labels is designed to improve your little one’s spelling and reading skills on a daily basis.
Materials Required
Cardboard Marker Pen Sticky Tape or Tac
Method
Although this activity takes 20 minutes to set up it works via immersion in language and the idea that your little one will begin to recognise the word for a particular item even if it is not taught explicitly other than once a month or so. As such you will need to begin by using the marker pen to write labels for all the items in your house. Once these labels have been created stick them to these items and show your little one how each item or noun has a name and have them begin to identify the item from its written name. Labeling everything in your home will immerse your little one in language and allow them to see the shape of the word and the initial sound. It will also be beneficial if you point out these words when you find them in texts or catalogues. Extension: Once your little one is able to recognise the words create new labels with letters missing which they need to fill in.
