Picture Unveiling

Engagement Time

10-20 Minutes

Picture Unveiling is designed to improve your little one’s reasoning skills while building their known word base with additional nouns.

Materials Required

Picture Unveiling

Two pieces of cardboard shaped as L's Pictures to reveal

Method

This activity is a favourite among Art teachers who are trying to instill in their students an understanding of the commonality across a given artistic genre via the imagery, colour usage or asymmetry of the lines. In this case, though, you can adapt the same technique to allow you to broaden your little one's vocabulary by introducing new nouns in a fun manner. Once you have chose the item to be guessed you simply overlap the two pieces of 'L' shaped card onto of the picture so that none of the picture can be seen. As you slowly pull the two pieces of cardboard apart you can have your little one try to guess the picture underneath. Extension: If your little one is a tad gung ho and is having more misses than hits with their guessing you may wish to slow them down by having them justify why they have offered the suggestion they have given.

This activity develops skills in these areas:
