Play by the Clock

Engagement Time

5, 10 or 15 Minutes

Play by the Clock is designed to improve your little one’s ability to read the time either on a digital or analogue clock. It will also assist in mastering the concept of addition as time can be added together.

Materials Required

Play by the Clock

A Clock

Method

This is a rather simple activity as it merely involves your little one alerting you to the passing of time. It is great if you want to complete a quick task and can set your little one to colouring in for 5 minutes. You can show your little one the clock - digital or analogue - and what time it will read when 5 minutes have passed. Ask you little one to let you know when this time arrives and offer praise if they get the task completed successfully. Extension: Once your little one has mastered reading 5 minutes you can stretch this to 10 or even 15 minutes of actvity such as watching TV or playing on the computer. Note: You may wish to set an alarm in case they forget to tell you or set it for 6 minutes and see if they can beat the alarm in letting you know when 5 mintues has passed to avoid 30 minutes of TV watching.
