Key Learning Areas

ABC Kid's Key Learning Areas or 'KLA's', refers to the mandatory subject areas taught in all NSW schools*. Identified by the Australian Education Council, and developed by CURASS (the Australian Education Council's Curriculum and Assessment Committee) Key Learning Areas allow educators to organise the diverse aspects of human intellectual knowledge, experience and achievement into eight concise fields.

The eight KLAs, and the disciplines they are based on, reflect the richly diverse ways in which children come to know and understand the world. Attainment of the significant outcomes in each KLA ensures children develop significant knowledge and understanding across all fields of human endeavour.
