Co-ordination Activities

PD/H/PE, as it generally abbreviated, is the area which comprises Fundamental Movement and Physical Activity, Making Healthy Choices, Self Awareness and Relationships. One of the most important areas for social development and wellbeing, this area is definitely one of the most enjoyable to teach as it brings so much immediate joy to all involved.

By three years of age children participate in physical activity daily, through creative play, dance, gymnastics and games. They practice body movement and control by composing sequences of simple movement patterns which demonstrate different ways their bodies can move. They also enjoy practicing the fundamental movement skills of balancing, running, jumping, throwing and catching.

This area of development also focuses on the importance of showing awareness and consideration of others during play situations and communication with peers in a variety of play and group situations, listening, sharing and showing concern when playing with others. It also involves making simple decisions in relation to health and safety, such as balanced eating habits and healthy personal habits as well as safe and unsafe situations at home, on and near roads and near water.
